Themes and Questions

So, we've launched the campaign and we've already raised 1% of our goal in 2 days, which is pretty damn awesome if I don't say so myself! But, obviously, we want more people to donate, because we want to hit that target, so I thought I'd give you all a little insight into just exactly what we're asking you to contribute to.

I mean, we're asking a question here, and it's a big one: what is Follow The Crows?

And the face of it Follow The Crows is post-apocalyptic thriller. It tells the story of a small group of survivors wandering the wasteland in search of something to live for. It's a thriller, which means it's dark and it's, hopefully, atmospheric. But those are all surface points, I want to delve a little deeper. What are the themes of Follow The Crows? What are the questions is asks and the answers it poses? Just what the hell is it all about?

Well, first and foremost it's a study on society. Or rather, a society stripped of the rules and laws that make up what we might call a society. There's no internet, no instagram, Facebook, twitter or funny blog posts, this is a world where all of that kind of thing is nothing more than legend.

One of the key aspects to delving into this world was that the characters not remember a life pre-apocalypse. We made a decision, fairly early on in the writing, that the entire film would be told from the point of view of people who not only have no memory of the "real" world, but probably haven't even heard about it befre.

We're two, maybe three generations in to this world now, and that's important, because it gives us something of a blank slate. We can now delve deeper into the environment, into the mindset and into the thoughts of these people. I mean, there's no chance society is coming back here, it's well and truly gone, so now all you have is to live day by day.

Which brings me t the second and last theme I'd like to discuss, and this is more of a question than a theme, but the film certainly does bring it up and leave it hanging over the plot like a gloomy, dark presence. When you have nothing and every day is a struggle to survive, what do you live for? And, if all you have to live for is living then are you even really alive?

I don't want to go too deep into the conclusions the film draws from these questions, because that would potentially spoil the plot, but what I do want to say is that all of our lead characters are battling with this question in some way, shape or form. Be it desperately searching for something to give them purpose or having given up already and simply making it day by day, it's an important part of our plot.

Finally I'd just like to encourage everyone to contribute to our campaign. It would mean so much to the cast and crew, all of whom put in a lot of effort to make this film for nothing other than the passion and belief that it could be something special. You can be a part of that too, and remember, every little helps. Just click here and choose your perk, we've got some fantastic stuff on offer. Thank you!
