The Sound of Music

Music is a funny thing. It can add so much to the scene, but it can also take so much away. I remember reading once that a good film stands on its own, the visuals alone, no music, no dialogue, but I don't think this is strictly true. While I agree that a movie shouldn't rely too much on music and dialogue to tell its story (it is a visual medium), I think they can, and this is especially true of music, enhance the entire sequence or story. The right piece of music will give you a feeling that no amount of visuals or dialogue or foley can ever hope to achieve.

In fact, I rank music up there as one of the most important parts of film.

And then some.

Funding!

Creating a funding campaign is a lot like making a cake. Mostly, I don't know how and I get really, really annoyed when things don't go my own way. But also because it takes a lot of preperation. A lot of preparation.

I've spent a big portion of the last few weeks designing our funding campaign, it's been an exciting experience, and as the time draws nearer and nearer to it actually launching I've found myself becoming more and more nervous. I haven't just whacked together some photos and a synopsis and stuck it on a indigogo page, I've designed things, created things, come up with ideas to keep the campaign interesting.

Fond Memories

It's been a little while since we finished production of Follow The Crows, and yet each and every day I find myself missing the craziness of the shoot. I miss the worry of people showing up on time, the fear of loosing light, the horror of the rain or the terror of the sun. I miss working my ass off, being on my feet all day, arguing over what a characters motivation is, why this scene has to be this way.

I miss the tiresome work of film-making, and shorts and corporate films are all well and good, but there's nothing quite like making a feature.

In the Edit

Editing on Follow The Crows has been a somewhat traumatic experience. As we've worked so tirelessly on the production side of things we've been somewhat mistreating the post-production side. That's not say we've been beating it black and blue with a sack of oranges or something, we've just not focused on it as much as one would like.

That being said, now that post-production is well and truly underway we can start to see the film taking shape. A completed rough cut is almost ready, and it's nice to see that things are actually coming together. It looks like a movie!
